Mayun…A pre-wedding ritual

My niece is getting married tomorrow. A centuries old and popular pre-wedding custom is ‘Mayun’. Few days before the wedding, the girl wears yellow clothes. An herbal paste made of turmeric, sandal wood, oil etc is applied to her face, arms, hands and so. The mixture  is supposed to make the skin soft and fresh. It probably also makes the complexion a bit fair. On the wedding day when the girl wears wedding dress and is fully made, she looks like a princess.
