Dry Fruit Shop (08 images)

Weather is cold here in Islamabad and dry fruits are in demand. Visited a local shop today and liked the display. Thought to share it.

The name of the shop is Gilgit Baltistan Dry Fruit Merchant:

Why is pine nut most expensive? Because of big demand or scarcity?

Pine nuts are also the most expensive of nuts here in Portugal. And yes, heavenly delicious!

Thats a lot of dried fruit. Pine nuts are used a lot by the Italian’s in Basil Pesto and Pignoli Cookies. I agree they are heavenly especially when toasted 😀

Great photos. Such an amazing shop.
We couldn’t have so much raw ingredients on display due to flies and insects in the air.
Most nuts are expensive here in Australia (except for peanuts which are not actually a nut).

I buy Macadamia nuts as a treat sometimes (as they are so expensive), but we actually grow them here. I think sometimes it the time consuming method of extracting them from the shell which makes them expensive. Same with dried fruits.

Nuts & dried fruits are some of the things I really can’t afford now I’m living on a Govt. Disability Pension and can’t work. But I still buy some things as a treat every now & then.

Thanks Vicki. Most people in Pakistan eat these nuts in winter only. I tend to have them year long as they are good for controlling blood pressure and are also a very good source of fiber.

  6. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Very nice.

  7. Love the colors. Nice pictures. Thanks for posting
