A Street Portrait

One would see many young kids working on the streets. Here is a portrait of one such boy:

These boys start working early in their life and support their families. A tough life indeed. The only downside is that they have little chance to attend school.

  1. Nice shot!

He looks well dressed… but he doesn’t look very happy. They make kids into salesmen here in the states… with selling stale cookies and candy and such… but they don’t (yet, as far as i know) make them do it permanently, away from an education.

Thanks. These kids earn to support the family. If they go to school, the family loses an earning hand on one hand and they have to spend on the education on the other hand. Hard choices.

There is a certain level of apprehension in his expression. This helps make a stronger image.

I guess he was indifferent to being photographed on the street. This is just after I point my camera. Usually after a few words, they relax. But then that is a different type of ‘smiling’ portrait. I love the simplicity and ruggedness in this as well as in other street portraits.

    This is a great photograph.
