The Shah Jahan Mosque was built in 1647 in Thatha City, some 100 km from Karachi.
Shah Jahan (means King of the World) was a Mughal emperor and is the same guy who is responsible for Taj Mahal.
This is a beautiful mosque and a piece of art:
The mosque has corridors and about 100 small domes distributed in such a way that when the sermon is delivered, the voice is carried, amplified in the domes repeatedly and the entire mosque can hear it with any loud speakers:
The main prayer hall inside the mosque. you can see people praying:
Now a days it is equipped with loud speakers (strange, defeats the purpose of this very scientific architecture):
The art work is intricate and mind blowing. just beautiful:
A close up:
Something which has survived for centuries is deteriorating due to neglect (although I saw renovation being done):
The worst case:
All photos taken by me. To prove that I was there, in the middle, with my friends:
I hope you enjoy this beauty. Thanks for the patience.
Beautiful Mosque and amazingly old š
True. These building last for ever.
Stunning colors and patterns. Thank you for sharing this.
You are welcome Tim. I am glad you liked it.
Beautiful craftsmanship in the building, your photographs capture it well.
(Does the stripey bit play havoc with ones eyes? I can imagine it must be striking when the full sun is on it,.)
Thanks. The striped pattern is inside the corridors so I guess they are not so hard on the eyes.
š
some great tiles there
Thanks. This blue colored style is typical of the region. It is popular even today.
Such beautiful details and tiling.
How lucky you were to see it all.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Vicki. There are many historical buildings (mosques, tombs etc), from the Mughal era, spread throughout Pakistan.
The colours, patterns, and symmetry are amazing and wonderful. So intricate and detailed. It must be wonderful to see it all close-up.
Thanks for the comment. It is definitely very interesting, educative and informative to visit such a beautiful place. But then we may be used to seeing such places and do not feel that excited.
